If a property covers multiple states, the appraiser must ensure he or she is properly credentialed in each jurisdiction. Some states require a credential (or temporary practice permit) for all assignments performed within their state borders. Other states may only require a credential (or temporary practice permit) if the appraisal is a federally related transaction as specified in Title XI of FIRREA. In any event, it's necessary to check with each of the applicable jurisdictions.
